Mesmerizing Monday -11

Jean Sibelius ,one of the great composer of  the Romantic period. He was born in Finland and composed some great music.Finlandia was his most famous work. He wrote this piece to support freedom of press. This piece has since became 'sort of' national anthem for Finns. When i listen this peice , i always feel something dark then jubilation.Im not able to say in words the feelings created by listening this piece.
Jean Sibelius

This composition brings all emotions something all Finns identifies with and we too will get different experience when we listen.Jean  Sibelius wrote this piece in 1899 when Finland was under Russian masters. This is one good example of how music can arise people to fight. Listen and Arise...

One of the most beautiful overture ( introduction to an opera) of all time. This particular piece was a gem by the great Mozart. This overture set the tone for the entire opera and you can not take your ears-off when you listen this composition. This opera is based on Beaumarchais's 1784 play La Folle Journée, ou Le Mariage de Figaro, a sequel to his earlier play, Le Barbier de Séville (The Barber of Seville).Mozart premiered this opera in 1786.The starting is so nice that you will feel something magical is happening around.I had this piece in my first classical music CD.This composition always fascinates me.Enjoy this wonderful music.

Mesmerizing Monday -8

Maurice Ravel's "Bolero"  is one of my favorite composition and i like it so much specially when running.I heard this piece for the first time in 2008 in a rainy day ,from that time im obsessed with this one-movement orchestral piece, simply awesome.Initial phases heard like our school marchpast beats , but beneath there is a wonderful soft melody  flowing. The flutes, the violin and Saxophone all mixed in harmony.

Maurice Ravel(1875-1937) was a French composer and this orchestral piece was his most famous work.He had composed many other pieces specially melodies. He was a contemporary and rival to another great composer Debussy. He wrote this piece for his dance friend, i think his friend was a 'bolero' dancer,a Spanish dance.Through out this piece the same theme is repeating 18 times.Check the finishing part, how slowly it builds up.

An enduring music which makes us feel humble.Enjoy this wonderful music.

Mesmerizing Monday -7

Beethoven's Moonlight sonata is one of my favorite morning time listening.Beethoven completed this wonderful piece in 1801 and it remains one of the all time great piano composition. Its also called as "Sonata quasi una fanatasia".

A sonata consists of three parts :
1)Adagio sostenuto
2)Allegretto
3)Presto Agitato

I liked the "Allegretto" part more because it is wonderfully set by Adagio and followed by Presto Agitato. The last part is bit fast and that makes this piece a complete one.

Its breathtaking and beautiful.Enjoy this awesome music.

The starting harp music set the tone for the rest , followed by beautiful violins..Awesome.Listen and enjoy this mesmerizing music.

No words describe this wonderful composition. This is one of the most famous of Mozart's piano compositions.I always listen both orchestral version as well as Piano version.

Mesmerizing Monday -4

I heard this composition of the great maestro many times in a movie i think it was in the movie "Veedu"  but not the entire composition. I bought this album "How to name it?" four years before, since then atleast once in a week i listen the whole album specially on monday morning. This particular composition "How to name it?" is the celebration of violin's divine sound.I read somewhere that this composition has mixture more than 2 ragas? never mind who wants those details, music must take us to next level thats what this piece does.

Ilaiyaraja is a real genius who brings the divinity to the music, this composition is one such example of his brilliance. For me i can listen this composition any time of the day irrespective of my mood.It just soothes.Still Ilaiyaraja is not getting is due honors, pathetic. If he would have born in some other country , he would have been celebrated far more than what we are doing now.Read in papers that Ilaiyaraja's children are planning to release a remastered version of this album and perform live on stage  on 25th anniversary of the release of this album, waiting for it.

Listen to this wonderful piece and celebrate the maestro..

My all time favorite Beethoven's symphony.I heard this symphony first time in 2007 in a closed room, amazing! Never skipped a moment  right from the thunderous starting to the thunderous finishing. This composition made me fall in love with the western classical music. When you listen with earphone and shut all outside world's noise, you will be definitely  transported to something beautiful and i should say divine too.

This symphony was composed during 1804-1808 and premiered Vienna's Theater an der Wein on December 22 , 1808.Beethoven dedicated this symphony to his patrons,Price Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz and Count Razumovsky. The instruments used were 2 flutes , 2 oboes,2 clarinets,2 bassons,contrabasson,2 horns,2 trumpets,3 trombones ,timpani and strings(collection of violins, cellos, basses etc). I should say that most of the instruments i never heard of before but now im getting used to these instruments sounds.

Listen and fall in love with music...!

Mesmerizing Monday -1

Every Monday morning when getting ready to work i listen songs or some classical composition to make myself  feel good and relax.I started listening to both Indian and Western classical music only 5 years before. Now most of the time i listen to other languages songs. Here is my first song which always gives me wonderful feeling..

Here is the lyric:
Na na na na ...
You're my everything
The sun that shines above you makes the blue bird sing
The stars that twinkle way up in the sky

Tell me I'm in love, when I kiss your lips
I feel the rolling thunder to my finger tips
And all the while my head in a spin
Deep with in I'm in love

You're my everything and nothing
Really matters but the love you bring
You're my everything
To see you in the morning with those big brown eyes
You're my everything
Forever and the day
I need you close to me
You're my everything
You never have to worry never fear
For I am near when I hold you tight
there's nothing that can harm you in the lonely night
I'll come to you and keep you safe and warm
Yes, so strong my love

You're my everything
I live upon the land and see the sky above
I'll swim within oceans sweet and warm
There's no storm my love

What a voice!the starting na na na.. sets the tone for the song. This song was by the French/American group Santa Esmeralda, they have many disco superhits, but this melody stands out and it remains one of the best of them till date.

Panis Angelicus

I started to listen to Western classical music from 2008, from that time onward im trying all kind of instruments,Operas ,Symphonies etc.I always wondered by the power of the music to calm my mind midst of so many problems.Classical music listening is one of the best thing happen to me in recent years .The first CD i bought was Mozart's Top 10 Composition, i bought it at a Deepavali bazaar couple of years back.I was mesmerized by Mozart. Then comes Beethoven followed by whole lot of classic composers including modern composers like Philip Glass and Ravi Shanker. Many times i thought of writing about my liking in music but never spent enough time on it.So today decided to write about this beautiful composition.
This particular hymn was written by  St.Thomas Aquinas in his book "Sacris Solemniis" .Beautiful lyrics ,

Latin Text
Panis Angelicus fit panis hominum
Dat panis coelicus figuris terminum
O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum
Pauper, pauper, servus et humilis
Pauper, pauper, servus et humilis

English Translation
The angel's bread becomes the bread of men
The heavenly bread ends all symbols
Oh, miraculous thing! The body of the Lord will nourish
The poor, poor, and humble servant
The poor, poor, and humble servant

Cesar Franck was a composer whose composition for the above lyrics is most famous of all.Check out this video in this Renee Fleming sings "Panis Angelicus".. immerse in the beauty of music..

Beethoven's Love Letters

I was listening to Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" ,i accidently clicked some link which took me to a webpage,an interesting one:Beethoven's love letters.I knew Beethoven was a damn good composer but never in my wildest imagination thought that he was such a romantic person.Read these letters which were written to a unknown person ,in a unknown year but it was written on 6th and 7th of July and not sure whether these letters were ever sent as it was not addressed to anyone.Read these letters of a musically and romantically wonderful person.

 July 6th, in the morning
My angel, my all, my very self. - Only a few words today, and, what is more, written in pencil (and with your pencil)-I shan't be certain of my rooms here until tomorrow; what an unnecessary waste of time is all this--Why this profound sorrow, when necessity speaks-- can our love endure without sacrifices , without our demanding everything from one another, can you alter the fact that you are not wholly mine, that I am not wholly yours?--Dear God, look at Nature in all her beauty and set your heart at rest about what must be--Love demands all, and rightly so, and thus it is for me with you,for you with me-- but you forget so easily that I must live for me and for you; if we were completely united, you would feel this painful necessity just as little as I do--My journey was dreadful and I did not arrive here until yesterday at four o'clock in the morning. As there were few horses the mail coach chose another route, but what a dreadful road it was; at the last state but one I was warned not to travel by night; attempts were made to frighten me about a forest, but all this only spurred me on to proceed--and it was wrong of me to do so.. The coach broke down, of course, owing to the dreadful road which had not been made up and was nothing but a country track. If we hadn't had those two postillions I should have been left stranded on the way--On the other ordinary road Esterhazy with eight horses met with the same fate as I did with four--Yet I felt to a certain extent that pleasure I always feel when I have overcome some difficulty successfully--Well, let me turn quickly from outer to inner experiences. No doubt we shall meet soon; and today also time fails me to tell you of the thoughts which during these last few days I have been revolving about my life--If our hearts were always closely united, I would certainly entertain no such thoughts. My hear overflows with a longing to tell you so many things--Oh--there are moments when I find that speech is quite inadequate--Be cheerful-- and be for ever my faithful, my only sweetheart, my all, as I am yours. The gods must send us everything else, whatever must and shall be our fate--Your faithful Ludwig
Monday evening, July 6th
You are suffering, you, my most precious one--I have noticed the very moment that letters have to be handed in very early, on Monday--or on Thursday--the only days when the mail coach goes from here to K[arlsbad].--You are suffering--Oh, where I am, you are with me--I will see to it that you and I, that I can live with you. What a life!!!! as it is now!!!! without you--pursued by the kindness of people here and there, a kindness that I think-that I wish to deserve just as little as I deserve it--man's homage to man--that pains me--and when I consider myself in the setting of the universe, what I am and what is the man--whom one calls the greatest of me--and yet--on the other hand therein lies the divine element in man==I weep when I think that probably you will not receive the first news of me until Saturday--However much you love me--good night--Since I am taking the baths I must get off to sleep--Dear God--so near! so far! Is not our love truly founded in heaven--and, what is more, as strongly cemented as the firmament of Heaven?--
Good morning, on July 7th
Even when I am in bed my thoughts rush to you, my eternally beloved, now and then joyfully, then again sadly, waiting to know whether Fate will hear our prayer--To face life I must live altogether with you or never see you. Yes, I am resolved to be a wanderer abroad until I can fly to your arms and say that I have found my true home with you and enfolded in your arms can let my soul be wafted to the realm on blessed spirits--alas, unfortunately it must be so--You will become composed, the more so as you know that I am faithful to you; no other woman can ever possess my heart--never--never--Oh God, why must one be separated from her who is so dear. Yet my life in V[ienna] at present is a miserable life--Your love has made me both the happiest and the unhappiest of mortals--At my age I now need stability and regularity in my life--can this coexist with our relationship?--Angel, I have just heard that the post goes every day--and therefore I must close, so that you may receive the letter immediately--Be calm; for only by calmly considering our lives can we achieve our purpose to live together--Be calm--love me--Today--yesterday--what tearful longing for you--for you--you--my life--my all--all good wishes to you--Oh, do continue to love me--never misjudge your lover's most faithful heart.
ever yours
          ever mine
ever ours
