Event : OCBC Cycle Singapore 2011
Place : F1 Pit building
Date : Sunday, March 6 , 2011 Time : 1AM to 1PM
My first volunteering in a cycling event.I had a wonderful time with fellow volunteers as well as with competitors.I was a route marshal, means one who guides the riders the path and prevent the public from obstruct the riders. Our team had 6 volunteers and a leader. We assembled at F1 pit building around 1:35AM,there we received our goodie bag,T-shirt and breakfast. We spent sometime there at F1 pit building itself.I was very please to see many volunteers specially the students, of course they can get CIP(Community Involvement Programme) but still one must have heart to come and do the work as volunteer.Hats off you all the volunteers.

near Tanjong Katong Park |
I was posted near Tanjong Katong park, the park where i never visited. For the first 1 hour i was alone sitting near corner of the road. The first race of the day -The Super Challenge (60KM) flagged off at 6AM.We were told to be ready with flags and lights.I took out the red triangle shaped flag and the whistle. This was the moment i was eagerly waited for, to see the cyclist in action. What a scene!! First came the security guards in motorbikes, then the ambulances with siren on,then came the riders.I never thought that one can pedal the cycle that much fast. The first pack of cyclists or peloton was awesome, they made some noise, did not understand it.I think around 180-200 cyclist participated in this category. The winner took 1:15:38.4 seconds to finish this race.
Check out the results of -The Super Challenge (60KM).
For the second race i was asked to go near the turn(towards ECP) and shout "Slow down" to the cyclists!! My job was very important in context of Cyclist's pace and security ,since its quite hard for the cyclist to turn with full speed.I was standing at the turn for the rest of the race.It was a wonderful experience for me to see the real action and to do my part as volunteer.I spoke to some students about their education, their interests and their goal.

There were more number of participants in - The Nissan Challenge(40KM) race. The funny part of this race was the dresses the competitors worn and the different types of cycles.Dress - some of them worn night dress, some of them with formal shirt and pant, some even with sandals!!In regards to cycles, all the possible types of cycles one can imagine! Some rode the cycles with their kids at the back seat!!

Then we had 2 other races :
1)The Community Ride(20KM)
2)iFly Singapore Cycle of Hope (4KM)
We finished our work around 11:10AM and returned back to the F1 Pit building around 12 O'Clock. We got our allowance and some cool drinks.Overall a great experience. Thanks to fellow volunteers,my leader Ms.Vanessa Ang and OCBC for this lovely event.
